January 2019 in Laterrière, an employee of Pièces d’autos Choc was fatally crushed by a wheel loader.
Today, the CNESST has made public the conclusions to its investigation regarding the work accident, which claimed the life of Mr. Édouard Guernon, worker for Entreprise Pièces d’autos Choc on January 10, 2019 in Laterrière.
Timeline of accident
The day of the accident, Mr. Guernon was busy getting parts in stored vehicles in the company’s yard. At around 2:30PM, he walked towards the garage to bring a part by taking the main path. At the same moment, one of his co-worker’s driving a wheel loader, was about to move a container near the garage. While in reverse, the loader crossed paths with the worker who was walking, which then crushed him with the back right wheel. Emergency services were called at the scene of the accident and the death of Mr. Guernon was declared.
Cause of accident:
The query allowed the CNESST to retain two causes to explain the accident:
- The worker was fatally crushed by a wheel loader in reverse position;
- Traffic in the yard was inefficiently managed because the employer allowed both vehicles and pedestrians to share the same path.
