Reminder: Preventive measures to protect the health of workers from COVID-19

Construction sites in 2020: A new reality

The situation surrounding COVID-19 is not easy to manage as a business owner. Businesses, whether small or large, must adapt to the new measures requested by the government. This is particularly the case for the construction industry.

Since the sites reopened last April, have you implemented any preventive measures? Do you take the time to check that the measures put in place are respected by the employees?

The CNESST (Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail) has created a "Building sites - COVID-19" tactical committee. This committee is responsible for raising problems, sharing good practices and finding prevention solutions to enforce public health guidelines and recommend actions to be implemented on construction sites.

Preventive measures to protect the health of workers

An online guide is available on the CNESST website. It determines the measures to be put in place on construction sites to reduce the contamination of workers by COVID-19. These measures will be updated regularly as the pandemic situation evolves.

This guide explores several points, including:

  • Checking the health condition of workers arriving on site
  • Criteria for the return to work of a worker who has contracted COVID-19
  • Work planning to respect social distancing
  • Hygiene measures on site
  • Prevention measures during work in a place contaminated by COVID-19
  • Use of specific personal protective equipment for COVID-19
  • Solutions to fight stress, anxiety and depression associated with Covid-19
  • Reminder of the basic hygiene measures of the General Directorate of Public Health
